Is your brand already trending on RedNote? How to check
Most brands have no idea they are already being discussed on RedNote in Mandarin. Here is a practical way to check whether the demand for your brand already exists, and what to do with it.

Most Western brands are already being talked about on RedNote and have no idea. The conversation happens in Mandarin, written by overseas Chinese shoppers, and it never shows up in Google Analytics, Meta, or Shopify. The good news is that you can check whether the demand for your brand exists, and this post walks through how, from a rough do it yourself pass to a proper demand audit.
Why your own analytics will never tell you
Your tools measure people who already found you. RedNote is where people decide whether to look for you in the first place. That conversation sits one step earlier in the journey, on a platform your analytics cannot see and in a language your team probably cannot read. So a brand can have hundreds of RedNote posts written about it and see nothing at all in its own dashboards.
That is the blind spot. It is also the opportunity, because the brands that spot the demand early are the ones that win the category later.
A rough do it yourself check
You can get a first sense of this yourself in an afternoon, with limits. Here is the honest version:
- Search your brand name in the RedNote app, in both English and, if you can, in Chinese. See whether posts come up and roughly how many.
- Search your category, for example British skincare, London afternoon tea, or independent fragrance. See how active the conversation is and which brands appear most.
- Read the comments, not just the posts. This is where people say what they cannot find, what they wish existed, and what they are frustrated by. That is product and positioning gold.
- Note who is winning. Which competitors show up repeatedly, and what are they doing that earns saves and comments.
The catch is that this is slow, it is in Mandarin, and a manual scan of a handful of posts will not tell you whether a trend is real or a one off. You will get a feel for it, not a decision you can act on with confidence.
What a proper demand audit answers
A real audit reads the platform at scale and turns it into four answers you can act on:
- Trend. What is rising in your category on RedNote right now, and how fast.
- Presence. How many posts mention your brand, what they say, and which products resonate most.
- Position. Where you sit against competitors in the conversation, and which positions are still open.
- Potential. Whether the demand is strong enough to justify investment, and the sharpest angle to enter with.
The difference between the afternoon scan and the audit is the difference between a hunch and evidence. One tells you the conversation exists. The other tells you whether to bet on it and how.
What to do with what you find
The findings usually point to one of three outcomes, and all three are useful:
- Strong, clear demand. Move, and move on the specific angle the audience is already asking for, before a competitor claims it.
- Demand in an unexpected shape. The audience wants a different hero product or use case than you lead with at home. Reposition for them.
- Thin or no demand. You have just saved yourself a year of content spend and an agency retainer on a channel that was not ready for you.
Every one of those is a better position than guessing.
The faster way
Reading RedNote properly, in Mandarin, at scale, is exactly what RedMuse does. You ask it a plain English question like “is my brand being talked about on RedNote?” or “what is trending in UK skincare right now?”, and it reads the platform, analyses what it finds, and answers with something you can act on.
If you would rather see the real picture than guess at it, book a 30 minute demand call. We will show you what is already being said about your category, and whether your brand has a head start you did not know about.
